Yerma, music based on the homonymous play by Federico Garcia Lorca.
The composition, inspired by Lorca’s tragic play and the timeless themes related to it, draws elements of tradition, earthly and natural sounds, which it juxtaposes with modern rhythmic patterns and a vocabulary of film music.
The string quartet, as a representative of classical music and the European tradition, is combined with the clarinet, bagpipes, lute and percussion in rhythms and music themes of the Mediterranean countryside.
Sounds of the Spanish peninsula, of the mountains, the desert and native Greek tradition, are expressed on a production with modern structures and contemporary timbres.

A variation of the music was presented as a soundtrack for the dance theatre performance “Yerma”, directed by Maria Margari at “Tzeni Karezi” theatre in Athens in May 2022.
