The English-speaking alter ego of Jimmy Polioudis, The Vagina Lips, returns with the album Negative Feelings after a 2.5-year recording absence, which actually wasn’t an absence at all as he was active all this time with his Greek-language project MAZOHA.
The creative process of the album was adventurous. The audio files for two albums, including the eight tracks of “Negative Feelings”, were lost from Jimmy’s computer under unknown circumstances and he had to start again from scratch. At a time when he was immersed in negative thoughts and feelings (hence the title of the album) through the recordings he managed to find his inner balance and move on.
Negative Feelings is a pure indie album, faithful to the post punk, shoegaze and 90s American rock influences of The Vagina Lips. The mellowest moments (Intentions, Sad B4 It Was Cool) and the more up-tempo tracks (Get Off The Train, It’s Alright, Another Hit, Modern World) are both characterized by intense sadness, but without “blackening” the listener, but instead they take us on a positive, almost dreamlike pattern. There is no shortage of loud and rough sounding moments with tracks like Braindead and Tombstone that grab you by the throat from the first note.
Out on LP and Digital album on December 2nd via Ιnner Ear.
