KATHAROS CHALKOS

Katharos Chalkos was formed in the post-Covid period (Spring 2022 in Athens) out of the need to elevate shared practices and realizations from the previous period into a collective form.

Initially starting as a duo with Angelos Kottas (lute, vocals, electronics) and Nikiforos Mylonas (drums, percussion), the project first evolved into a trio with the addition of Giorgos Tsotsis (saxophone), and later into a quartet with Constantine Skourlis (vocals, effects).

Their music unfolds through extended forms in which rhythmic and vocal improvisations alternate with melodies, silence, and noise. The lute functions both as a rhythmic and sonic body, the drums construct repetitive structures of hypnotic intensity, while the saxophone and voices move between melody, narration, and deconstruction.

The result is a free yet cohesive ritualistic experience: a shared practice through which individual experience is expressed collectively.

Their debut album “Strovilos Eirmos” will be released in spring 2026 via Inner Ear.
