Mechanimal are a modular industrial project from Athens, Greece, formed in 2011 by musician, composer and producer Giannis Papaioannou. From the beginning, they have operated as an ever-changing collective of musicians and video artists, recording in different configurations while remaining rooted in the melancholy of post-punk.
Their sound moves between industrial, post-punk and electronic music, combining mechanical rhythms, analogue sequencers, guitar drones, synthesizers and human voices. Music and image have always been part of the same body, with their live performances unfolding as fully immersive audiovisual experiences.
Across seven albums and more than fifteen years of continuous activity, Mechanimal have created a world of their own, unconcerned with the boundaries between band, studio project and artistic collective. From their self-titled Mechanimal (2012) and Secret Science (2014), through ΔΠΔ (2016), Crux (2019) and Thorivos (2021), their line-up has continually evolved while their core remains unchanged: the search for a sound where the mechanical meets the human.
Mechanimal currently consists of Giannis Papaioannou, Freddie F. and Angeliki Vrettou. Together, they continue to operate as an industrial project in progress, open to new collaborations, experimentation and unpredictable transformations. Their music remains dark, physical and melancholic, yet never static: an ongoing dialogue between noise, technology, the city and human fragility.
