GEORGE BOTIS - CHRISTOS LASKARIS
Taxidevis Akoma
Cat.No: Release Date: 22.10.2021 /London-based artist George Botis is best known for his collaborations with many London-based bands and solo artists (Electric Litany, Valia Calda, Bouche, Farafi etc) as a producer. His sophomore solo project “Taxidevis Akoma (Still Travelling)” is released via Same Difference Music.
Eight tracks, most of which were written on the recitations of the poet Christos Laskaris, with the exception of two pieces [Ap’ to feggari (From the moon), Mono sta onira (Only in dreams)] that pre-existed as instrumental. Eight compositions, eight cards sent from eight dystopian metropolises of the present, where long nights alternate with the dim light of the sun low on the horizon.
In Laskaris’ poetry Botis found pieces of himself, identified and immersed himself in it for many years, until in 2018 he began to compose music influenced by the emotional identification with the man in Laskaris’ poetry, with the cancellation of dreams, with moments happiness amidst the tragedy of daily survival…
All music was written and recorded in London from the fall of 2018 to the summer of 2019. At that time Botis was under the influence of the music of Hiroshi Yoshimura, The Blue Nile, Daniel Lanois, Ry Cooder, Aphex Twin, Brian Eno, Tom Waits (Closing Time) and Vangelis.
This album could not have been made without the generous contribution of John Mourjopoulos, who made the original recordings of Laskaris’ recitations, and who has authorised their use. Mourjopoulous’ album ‘To Potami’ (‘The River’), 2009 provided inspiration for this project; his constructive criticism during the creation of the album has been invaluable, and has influenced the final result.
