Dimitris Papadatos is the artist and musician behind the name KU and from 2002 until today he has composed music for various projects and has collaborated with numerous artists including Grundik Kasyansky and local heroes The Boy, Larry Gus, Baby Guru and Angelos Kyriou. “Feathers” is his first studio album.
Electronic and organic at the same time, with tones of polyphonic hymns, echoes of traditional rhythms and primal outbreaks, “Feathers” moves between speed and stillness, sensations and memories and reflections expressed and sung loudly. The oxymoron of inspiration through the most simple things, like a walk with his dog, listening to music for hours, private and common time and everyday freedom of common people in a very illiberal environment, resulted in music revealed in varying proportions. A quintessence of obsessions, weaknesses and decisions that is nothing more than KU’s investigation on the essence of pop.
The core of the songs on this album are revisited versions of older recordings, recorded with an external microphone in his home studio during 2010-2012. In all these recordings, compositions and lyrics have been created on the spot, a deliberate tactic on the recordings of KU. Prins Obi (Baby Guru), who shouldered the production of “Feathers”, gave the extra touch to the final choice from hundreds of hours of recordings, the processing and orchestration of ideas in a concrete body. King Elephant (Baby Guru) took care of the sound recording and mixing of the album, while providing a cozy cave-studio that housed the close circle of friends and families who participated in “Feathers” during the Athenian summer months of 2012. All the musicians involved, with their own tastes, contrasts and ideas became a unique ‘device’, instead of a band, who succumbed to the ultimate purpose, in other words to lead these draft tracks in their final form.
“Feathers” is released in vinyl (including bonus cd) and digital album from Inner Ear.
