SISSY DOUTSIOU

Sissy Doutsiou is an internationally acclaimed spoken word artist and actress based in Athens, Greece. A pioneer of the spoken word scene in Greece, Doutsiou’s powerful performances explore personal experiences, social issues the interplay between desire and loss through raw, expressive artistry.

Doutsiou has performed at prestigious venues and festivals worldwide, including the 1st Biennial Destroy Athens, Weimar Poetry Award, Art Visuals & Poetry Film Festival in Vienna Artist House Künstlerhaus, and was a featured spoken word performer at the Financial Consequences multimedia poetry festival at LSE London. Her transformative performances at Judson Memorial Church (New York) and various venues across Europe, US, and Asia have established her as an impressive voice in the international spoken word community.

With an academic background in Astrophysics from the University of Sussex and professional acting training, Doutsiou has expanded her artistic approach through workshops with Natalie Portman, Jodie Foster, David Lynch, and Martin Scorsese. Her vision has been shaped through significant collaborations with the American company Living Theatre, the Institute for Experimental Theatre in Calcutta, and influential figures such as anthropologist David Graeber, surrealist poet Nanos Valoritis, and Jeffrey Perkins from Fluxus.

She is founding member of the Institute for Experimental Arts and Void Network, curator of the annual International Video Poetry Festival in Athens. Her published works include four critically acclaimed poetry collections, a compilation of erotic and political short stories “The Voyeur,” and a collection of psychological thriller short stories “The Sisters of Kain” – a feminist exploration of love, suppression, and violence.
