Οι The Callas είναι η κορυφή ενός «καλλιτεχνικού εργοστάσιου» που ξεκίνησε από τους αδελφούς Λάκη και Άρη Ιωνά και δημιουργεί μουσική, ταινίες, περιοδικά, εικαστικά και καλλιτεχνικά δρώμενα. Τα μέλη του μουσικού project των The Callas είναι οι: Άρης Ιωνάς (κιθάρα, φωνητικά), Λάκης Ιωνάς (μπάσο, φωνητικά), Χρυσάνθη Τσουκαλά (ντραμς, φωνητικά) και Χρήστος Μπεκίρης (κιθάρα). Σε κάποιες συναυλίες συμμετέχουν η Μαριλένα Πετρίδου (κρουστά) και οι The Callasettes.
Στο νέο τους album “Trouble and Desire” (Dirty Water Records – Inner Ear) συνεργάστηκαν με τον Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) ενώ στα δύο προηγούμενα album τους την παραγωγή έχει κάνει ο Jim Sclavunos (Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds).
Τα τελευταία χρόνια οι The Callas έχουν παίξει στα: Family Business (Νέα Υόρκη), Palais de Tokyo (Παρίσι), Indietracks Festival (Derbyshire, Αγγλία), The Great Escape Festival (Brighton, Αγγλία), Artrocker Magazine (Λονδίνο), Old Blue Last (Λονδίνο), Sala Apolo (Βαρκελώνη), The Windmill (Λονδίνο), The Fly (Λονδίνο), Club Fandango at The Monarch (Λονδίνο), Barfly (Λονδίνο), Alma Enterprises gallery (Λονδίνο), Favela Chic (Λονδίνο), Espacio Μenos Uno (Μαδρίτη), Taktfrei fest (Βερολίνο), De Roode Bioscoop (Άμστερνταμ), Fieldgate Gallery (Λονδίνο).
Έχουν παίξει live σε εκκλησίες, διαμερίσματα, πλοία, γκαλερί, βουνά, τουαλέτες, μουσεία και μαζί με συγκροτήματα όπως οι: Grinderman, Paws, Au Revoir Simone, You Say Party! We Say Die!, The Wedding Present, Television Personalities, Stereo Total, She Κeeps Bees και The Victorian English Gentlemens Club.
Ο Λάκης και ο Άρης Ιωνάς έχουν εκθέσει την εικαστική τους δουλειά στα: Palais de Tokyo (Παρίσι), Family Business gallery (Νέα Υόρκη), Ίδρυμα ΔΕΣΤΕ (Αθήνα), Faggionato Fine Art (Λονδίνο), Athens Biennale (Αθήνα), Andreas Melas gallery (Αθήνα), Yinka Shonibare Space (Λονδίνο), The Breeder gallery (Αθήνα), ATOPOS cvc (Αθήνα) κ.ά.
Το πρώτη τους μεγάλου μήκους ταινία με τίτλο “LUSTLANDS” (HAOS film) έκανε πρεμιέρα στο 7ο Athens Avant-Garde Film Festival και η δεύτερη “The Great Eastern” στην Documenta 14.
